Who are the Friends of the Dixon Public Library?
A group of people interested in libraries and the services they provide, good literature, and in programs and events which promote use of the Dixon Library. They are especially interested in encouraging children and young adults to discover the lifelong benefits of reading and regular use of the public library.
What do the Friends do to help?
The Friends provide financial contributions which help support the Summer Reading Programs for all ages and programs through out the year. They also occasionally purchase books and equipment for the library. In addition, the Friends give away new books to Dixon's children at two community events: the Trick or Treat Stroll in October, and the Tree Lighting Event in December. The Friends also provide a $1000 scholarship to a deserving high school senior every year and support the Dixon Literacy Program.
How do the Friends raise funds?
The Friends run The Friendly Bookworm a used bookstore situated next door to the library, which is open four days a week. They sell used books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes at very reasonable prices. All of the profits from the bookstore's sales benefit the library. Periodically the Friends hold special book sales as well (which will be listed on the Library's Calendar on the website). All of the items for sale have been donated by individuals like you.
The Friends also raise money through Amazon's AmazonSmile Foundation. AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same wide selection of products. The difference is that when customers shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to the Friends of the Dixon Library. Please visit the AmazonSmile page and search for the Friends of the Dixon Public Library.
